Especially when it comes to marriage which is now all about an emotional commitment to someone you love. Reason comes into it, of course.https://twitter.com/SexyIsntSexist/status/917474183625375744 …

Or are you asking me why other people consider/pursue marriage? If so it's because it's become a consumer-good. Neatly wrapped and shiny.
-
I don't know what that means. Conversation started around what marriage means and whether same sex marriage destroys that.
-
But to answer what I mean. Many see marriage as they party; the celebration/attention. The ritual of the union: not the union itself. Clear?
-
You think people get married for a wedding party? That is what the institution of marriage means now?
-
That's what I think it means to many. Unfortunately. To me? No. I think it a bad idea for many.

Or as a socio-economic multiplier
-
You believe that this is how people understand marriage today?
-
Based on how I hear people talk about it, visualize it and treat it? Yes. And given abysmal failure rates of them....well...

Are you asking why do ppl marry now? Or (for example) in the 14-15th Century? In theory to secure the continuity of bloodlines
-
Yes, now. What is marriage undertaken for now. It used to be coz ppl needed partners & children. Now they don't. I say it's about love now.
-
I say it's for the party. The attention. The social validation. But not for the work of the partnership itself.
