We can discuss the role of the religion in society, the rights and responsibilities of believers & non-believers in it
Of course we don't. It's a mess with everybody at each others throats. We need consistency. We can't reduce anything without discussion.

Then you need to pin the discussion down. It's a mess because unquestioned beliefs feed tribalism. How can you expect consistency?

Well, yes. I mean that we can require consistency in the rights of the religious and non-religious. And many religious ppl agree with this.

Don't understand why it is necessary to say this. The state as a proxy for "us" should be neutral viz a viz religion and laws should follow

Well, it's not necessary to tell me but we still have a way to go on this so discussion must be ongoing.

"All men are created equal". This being so, discriminating between people on the basis of religiosity is unacceptable. Consistent rights.
