Often helps to go back a step to show the problem with this. 'We shouldn't have let straight couples marry! It led to gay ones wanting to!'https://twitter.com/LKeturakis/status/917350279250612224 …

Mine fits but by coincidence. The basis of my marriage is loving commitment, not penis going in vagina with potential of producing baby.

Apparently, I have a very, very modern conception of marriage. Well, good. It was shit before.

BUT, the good thing abt modern marriage is that if you don't want urs to be abt loving commitment but strategic unions to produce offspring

...you can still do that. No-one will make you confirm your marriage is based on love, irrespective of gender or baby-making capacity.

Concept of marriage shifted naturally. Norm has been to find your own partner based on love & then discuss &decide re children for some time

It is already fully applicable to same-sex couples. Church can tell us marriage is abt sex that makes babies but that won't define it 4 most

Minor disagreement. A church can presume that but must not use the state to force others to agree. The state should be morality neutral.
-
I don't think that's a disagreement. People and institutions are allowed to be presumptuous.

Does a church only wedding even count as a legal wedding? Separation of state and church and such.
-
In the UK at least (possibly France also), a wedding performed by a priest is legal. If the state does not know, you won't get any benefits.
-
2. But then church and state are not separate in the UK. (post Henry VIII)
-
Ah, I see. I think Germany should be separated, but practically I am not so sure. I think that weddings only count when performed by gov't.
