It's just presumptuous of the church to say they want to 'protect' the meaning of marriage as relating to man & woman & having children.

Concept of marriage shifted naturally. Norm has been to find your own partner based on love & then discuss &decide re children for some time

It is already fully applicable to same-sex couples. Church can tell us marriage is abt sex that makes babies but that won't define it 4 most
