I think they probably know that the news reports unusual events. There's no 'Man takes his mother out for lunch coz she's feeling a bit low'
I agree men shld be encouraged not to be ashamed to talk abt feelings & admit vulnerability but don't know how much difference this wld make

Males are much more violent in all ape species. We mitigate this to a huge extent by expectations they won't be & penalties for being so.

But I suspect that when men are abusive, it will always be more violent than women whose abusiveness is often verbal & psychological.

Last time I looked up data on this, rates of violent abuse by men were higher but not monolithic, and psychological abuse was about equal.

I don't think psychological & verbal abuse is measured. Men don't &can't report every time a woman says something cruel or goes on for hours

I know I saw a reference to a study somewhere. I'll dig. The takeaway was it's about equally perpetrated, and mutual more often than not.
