This is cobblers. The author misunderstands the term; it's about her annoyance with individual self-described intersectional feminists.

I think intersectionality was bound to go this way coz centred in elevating group identity above universal human rights & individuality.
-
And adopted PoMo cultural constructivist views of gender & race & then focused on privilege clustering round certain groups.
-
Having this essentially Foucauldian view of society in which individuals are constructed by group ID & defined by their place in society
-
...makes it difficult not to be divisive or be tolerant of those who do not fit the mold & challenge the narrative.
-
I agree that diversity of opinion is important & to be respected; that's part of how I understand intersectionality, not opposed to it.
-
That's great & if intersectionals worked this way generally, I'd not be writing things like this.
-
I'm not chief cat-herder for whole of intersectionality, but intersectionality helps me understand that it includes diverse opinions too!

-
Good. However, if you try to encourage others to value diverse views, you're likely to be called a Nazi apologist & threatened with punching

I have to get on with some work so can't get into the lengthy, Twitter-unfriendly discussion this might require, but maybe key differences >

> here are that I see intersectionality as descriptive rather than prescriptive, & I don't think feminism or intersectionality is monolithic
-
Then, we're talking abt different things. I am not questioning the fact that people have intersecting marginalised identities.

I am talking about a branch of feminism which has incorporated intersectionality & is practicing it the way I have shown.
-
So, as I said, it's about your annoyance with individual self-described intersectional feminists. Fair enough.
-
Its about my concern with the movement & the way it is stifling speech. If it were just a few individuals, this wouldn't be possible.
-
Do you not think it's vaguely ironic that you're arguing for diversity of individual opinion while lumping all intersectionals together?
-
No. The problem with an intersectional feminist framework is that it discourages this. There are consequences for stepping out of it.
