But even if most people in a group think something is wrong, that doesn't make it wrong. The ethical argument needs to be sound.
eg- homosexuality does not become wrong because a majority of Pakistanis think it is.
That is also not a coincidence. You're right, tho, a majority believing a certain thing doesn't mean what they believe is right.
No. You choose to support those who share your intersectional views & I those who share my liberal ones. But it's my values that work here.
The ideology around cultural appropriation claims to uphold the values of minority cultures but then ignores those members who wrongthink.
Liberalism has values of freedom, fairness, shared humanity & individuality consistent with supporting those ideas in every cultural group.
Respecting each other's shared humanity/individuality means actually acknowledging that we're all different and have different perspectives.
Yes & evaluating them on their merits according to consistent ethical principles rather than what their own culture says about it.
An argument can be both "ethical" and "emotional" at the same time. But that gets to a whole different point.
Arguments are about reasoning. People are going to have emotions on all sides. They can be taken into account in ethical arguments.
