That sounds like both Stop Mansplaining and the torrent of abuse are socially acceptable, at least by the larger group. IMO, that's a common scenario; the socially unacceptable thing is pointing it out.

Fair point, but then we get into what "acceptable" means. Why does the larger group allow it to happen? Agreement? Apathy? Threats of ostracization? Absent legal threats, those are legit ways "acceptable" is shaped.

I understand your point but whether apathy or agreement or shouting down, the loudest (or only) voices are what make something "socially acceptable" or "unacceptable".
