People who frame their 'centrism' as pragmatic - playing by the rules of the game to be most effective, does this work with every game?

If it is that they value secular, liberal democracy & the fruits of the Enlightenment, could framing this as 'centrism' miss that point?

Because this is not a philosophical commitment to taking a middle position. It is a strong position with well-established principles.

I like to look at what works. Used to be very much about the "injustice", now more about goal of ending it & most successful way to do so

If you break in a horse, it will do you now good to just demand he'll let you ride him. It will take forever & might make things worse.

But have patience, calm and strategy, and you'll get there much faster with longer lasting positive results. (if that makes sense)

Yes & do you think that would still be the tactic to take in Pakistan? Go with a middle position even if it's still horribly oppressive.

Hm. I would look at this differently, I think. for example: Atheism. Radical position is to make it acceptable. To do so you efficiently,

you'd be wise to make smaller steps. Tackle corporate punishment. Then tackle jail sentences. Tackle blasphemy laws. etc.

So, I'm not sure you'd take the middle position ideologically. Your goal is radical. At least in Pakistan.
