People who frame their 'centrism' as pragmatic - playing by the rules of the game to be most effective, does this work with every game?

Because this is not a philosophical commitment to taking a middle position. It is a strong position with well-established principles.

from what I've seen, if you try radical change in places like Pakistan it ends poorly - usually with a fundamentalist regime.
