I think of myself as a centrist because I think the rules of the game can be as important or more important than the game itself.

Well, the centre would be somewhere different, wouldn't it. It would be the moderate position for Pakistan. A different game.

It's the idea of centrist as enforcer of rules/norms/etc versus centrist as moderate. A implies B, to me, but B isn't an end in itself.

So you'd only be a centrist in a country in which you believed in the rules. It is the rules you value not taking a middle position.

Right, although proper adherence to good rules tends to blunt extreme positions. This is also why I don't watch soccer :)
