Many people have pointed out that my experience of not being condescended to could be related to my liberal & female-dominated workspaces.

I am aware that highly socially conservative communities exist where men can be expected to lead in all ways. I don't live in one tho.

I'll certainly support women who do. But I find most of the complaints of mansplaining etc come from women with similar backgrounds to me.

My father is very conservative in all things including gender roles but this did not extend to regarding me as less intellectually capable.

It does mean that he tends to think it doesn't much matter what I do, tho. He's quite happy for me to study history & write about culture.

I know that if I'd have been a boy, he'd be incredibly disappointed that I'm not spending 80 hrs a week running a highly successful business

As I have no desire whatsoever to do that, it works out rather well. Nevertheless, he did try to interest me in economics.

And his lessons on economics & maths probably underlie my loathing of economics and my irrational fear of maths, tbh. XD

Well, in the circles I frequent condescension can come from men or women, but the style of it is probably a bit different, on average.
-
Generally, from women, it tends to be about *being a man*, and thus failing to intuit something, multi-task, etc. etc.
-
From men, more likely to be about not being, in some way, *enough* of a man. Not that I get much of either, but I've noticed the difference.
-
I'm sure there are places u can go where men belittle women 4 supposed intellectual failings. But doesn't seem 2 b part of dominant culture.
-
Also, there are off-the-shelf routines available to "call out" men who patronise women ("mansplainer!"); not really true other way around.
