In fact, don't respond to a criticism of anything by stating person making it is upset. Only they know that & it doesn't tell us anything.

Ppl can say someone complaining abt something is upset to dismiss it (you're just butthurt) or validate it (look, this hurts ppl)

So it's a crap measure of the validity of the criticism being made. It only measures how much sympathy you have or don't have. Tell me why.

Also, accusing people of being defensive doesn't work if you are actually attacking them.
