I don't think the decision not to have children should be evaluated in terms of 'selfishness'.

Not on a societal level in the sense of the society we have now & the ethics of being able to make this choice for one's own life.

There are scenarios in which it could be ethical not to have children - overpopulation, famine - or to have them - cancer-immune genes.
