Just got email saying child selected for extra-curricular STEM programme coz of her grades. No mention of how her genitals might impact this
That's claimed but never substantiated. Since having access to everything women have dominated healthcare, teaching, publishing psychology

I simply don't believe that if they were as interested in the STEM subjects they're underrepresented in, they wouldn't have just done that.
-
The difference in interests really isn't a cultural construct. Its pan-cultural & even exists in the other apes in simpler form.

If a child is dressed in pink, and as a consequence pushed towards dolls, even though 'she' is a boy... that's not society making choices?
-
Try to get a child to play with toys they don't want to & ignore the ones they do. The other apes also have gender prefs re dolls & trucks.
-
Gender differences exist & society notices them. Assumptions can be made but we've come so far with this.

It's also surprising that women would still get into law or medicine despite those fields being previously heavily dominated by men.

Engineers must be waaaaay more sexists than the old timey doctors and lawyers. Or it's something else at play, very unlikely. :^)
