Yes, but he thinks the other kind is very important because you can't analyse everything basically. Not waffle, very interesting, Bret good

Its the same old claims that we get with theology & postmodernism. I do actually find them both interesting. Just not true.

See, I'm listening & Rogan is setting out the case for truth logically & with clarity & Peterson goes straight into archetypes & narratives.

There's nothing wrong with drawing out ideas that are meaningful to humans from narratives, tropes, characters. I'm a lit student.

But it is important to distinguish these from what is known to be true according to evidence & so easy to do that.

But just cos you don't have a rational explanation of smth doesn't mean it's not true, according to his theory

Yes, exactly. This is my problem with epistemic relativists. Things are either true or they're not & they way to discover this is evidence.

I think it's semantics whether u want to call it truth but it does seem like an important phenomenon

It's not semantics. Epistemology matters. Facts matter. Science & evidence matter. They're how we progressed in the modern period.

PoMo & Peterson approaches which gloss over this & go into stories & subjective beliefs as the source of wisdom & knowledge are post-truth.

They contribute to the biggest problem PoMo brought us - the undermining of objective knowledge & the drive to search for it via science.

It removes the pressure to have your facts straight, present your evidence, test your hypotheses. You can just talk of other ways of knowing

That wasn't my impression from the Rogan, it was more an invocation not to throw out stuff cos it lacks rational justification

Throw it out of 'knowledge' and address it as it 'ideas which are meaningful to people.' Try to find out why & address it rationally.

That's exactly what he is trying to do, minus the throwing it out of knowledge.

And that's the problem. It's broken its bounds and is contributing to the problem of post-truth, epistemic relativity & alternative facts
