Does this also apply when someone say: expressing X has consequences and is damaging/dangerous?

That is probably why many leftists want to restrict violent films and video games; they assume it will corrupt views.
-
I'm not sure this is the same thing. Sexist/racist games & films, yes. Violent ones might come from an older intuition around corruption.
-
Fears of degeneracy from the sanctity/degradation foundation. Rather than a theoretical position on power of discourse to construct reality
-
I am not sure about this tho, having not spent nearly as much time talking to people who fear violence in video games etc.
-
Is it not related though? Controversial/violent ideas in films and games are harmful in the same way as in speech.
-
It's analogous but I'm not sure it comes from the same source. Just like atheism was & still is seen as a corrupting influence. Also porn.
-
This is an old impulse &underlies heresy/blasphemy but the fear of corrupting what is good is different to the urge to dismantle what is bad
-
Or, they might say, it reinforces the bad or the status quo.

Yes, probably right now. Tho this isn't incompatible with liberalism providing it doesn't remove the autonomy of the individual.
