Dave had to rescue an long-time neighbour of ours who was being misunderstood as harassing women in the supermarket.

Fortunately, Dave was able to intervene before the police were called but he'd already been grabbed by security which upset him greatly. :(

Precisely. He's a really nice man who is severely limited socially & so career-wise by autism not instantly apparent https://twitter.com/petehague/status/909745620344279041 …

Because he makes eye-contact. Fixed eye-contact, actually. Charitable assessments are needed. It'd be hard to see him as a danger to anyone.

Poor man. Do these ppl know who they are teaching these things to? Would be nice if they understood him & the effects it could have.pic.twitter.com/aRmxjvjVj3

I don't think they can. If they knew how his general social skills practice appears to people he approaches, they'd not have done this.
-
You'll be in the queue & he'll suddenly appear at your shoulder & fire questions at you. If those get romantic in nature...

It just bugs me. This type of "social training".

-
I think he enjoys it! Socially! But yes, it needs to be realistic. And especially careful around dating!
-
It's the realistic part that bugs me. I've given social training classes. Knowing who you're teaching is half the job.

hope the line "don't care he has mental health issues, this is toxic masculinity" were not uttered in the vicinity.

They were understanding after autism revealed but I think more charity generally is needed. Obv, also needed to stop him. :(
