There isn't actually a vengeful God. Promulgating the concept, however, eliminates much hard coercion that would be needed otherwise.

So religion as a noble lie? Both religionists & nonreligionists should be equally disgusted w/ that idea, if perhaps for different reasons.

Religionists and *anti*-religionists? Maybe. As a nonreligionist, my child becoming a religionist is plausible and perfectly palatable.
