I've often had to walk home alone late at night from various nursing & care-work shifts which were how I supported myself.

I also took the risk of wearing headphones which people advised me not to do. But I weighed daily boredom vs not hearing attacker approach.

It is perfectly reasonable to fight for one outcome while realising we live in the real world and so take precautions against reality.

Quandary is, more people standing atop ladders = more people hurt. More people venturing into dangerous public spaces = fewer people hurt.

Yes definitely. Makes it all the more important to not over emphasise the dangers, which are generally at historic lows.
