As far as I can establish, these feminists were simply having a meeting to discuss gender in a way that is oppositional to trans activism.

Gender critical feminists believe gender is entirely a cultural construct & so trans identity is nonsense. Obviously, I think they're wrong.

      That's not an accurate characterization.

Well, they think more than that, obviously. Or are you saying they don't think that?

They crucially believe that biology is instrumental in the oppression of women and is the defining characteristic of "woman."

Yes, I know. But we were talking abt gender & they believe it is a construct & trans is a delusion. That is true & doesn't negate bio arg.

i don't understand - is there another coherent definition of "gender" that *doesn't* define it as culturally-constructed?

gender itself is the cultural significance of and roles imposed on men and women, yeah? what isn't socially-defined about that?

That will be what you mean by it, then. More commonly I hear gender roles and psychological & cognitive stuff defined as gender.

hm. i imagine that these discussions about gender would be much less frustrating for everyone if we all agreed on what "gender" even means.

That won't happen tho coz people disagree on what is and isn't a social construct.

true. and we can't even have discussions about biological sex because some people disagree that it even exists. it's utterly bonkers.
