Ultimately, I just want people to be kind to each other. I don't think I'm naive & idealistic about this. It's the essence of humanism.

Animals are not consciously cruel.People are.
-
This is, as best as I know, not actually true. Cats play with their prey. Chimps enjoy torturing and eating (while still alive) enemies.
-
You might be right.I don't know how self conscience chimps are, little children(toddlers)are also cruel but not consciously.Same IQ level.
-
I actually think many kids are consciously cruel. As for the others, they're not conscious like we are, but I think it's the same circuit.
-
Sure there are kids whom are cruel to animals or other kids .They are psychologically disturbed.Toddlers don't know.
-
I guess I really don't know the literature. My experience is that kids can be cruel & they do know, to a limited degree, what they're doing.

May be just me being typically cynical, but I feel that the human race is more creative in its cruelty than its kindness.
