I'm not even sure they do. Men interrupt more but not women more than men.

Men *massively* over-estimated how much women speak, and under estimated how much they speak...
-
Is there any suggestion why? The stereotypes that women talk too much & men are uncommunicative seems to have some validity.
-
I seem to recall this, or something like this, in relation to classroom discussion contributions.
-
And then something like the time women spent talking was overestimated while that of men talking was underestimated.
-
The spin placed on this was all about 'everyone thinks women talk too much while they're really being crowded out".
-
But I thought: maybe it's that in-group bias thing. Might it not be that everyone actually pays more attention when a woman is speaking?
-
Maybe or it could just be people reflecting the norm - women talk more.
-
Could be wrong, it's been a while, but I think there were recordings involved, so comparison between perception and reality was possible.

I'm an engineer, in a room full of men. Our large, open-plan office is called The Morgue.

When I was growing up, I always wondered what it would be like to hear my dad finish a sentence.
