Hmmm. Is this abuse? It could certainly be an unsatisfactory relationship for the man & he'd be right to say it needed to change or end.https://twitter.com/barnettsurvivor/status/907222388428984321 …

The silent treatment, withholding affection, paying pets more attention than you and things like that are very much female abuser weapons.

yes, withholding affection in order to manipulate is considered emotional abuse

but that's sort of why it needs to be mentioned bc part of the power comes from never quite being sure it's wrong

Well, yes. Accusations of it can be used to manipulate as well. You're abusing me by not paying me enough attention/emotional labour.

yes. it's an attempt to control your partner's behaviour or emotional reactions. That's the cornerstone of abuse in a relationship

Yes, but so can accusations of it be an attempt to control them. We see it with feminists accusing men of not doing enough emotional labour

But the point is most people think abuse means random acts of violence, but abuse is really about control

Sometimes 'the silent treatment' is the best a *person* can do, in order to avoid completely losing their temper. Not necessarily right tho.

        A. I'm not talking about 'a few minutes', sometimes it can take days. B. Because it's not about gender but personality.

Sustained psychological/emotional approaches can still be abuse - many victims of childhood abuse can testify to that.
