I don't know what the solution is. Either way it isn't fair. But you can't compare situations where fetus lives with one where it dies.

With signing away his rights, he doesn't have to make that choice. His baby will live but he won't have to pay for it or care for it.

Well, you'd be wrong. Many people who don't want to be parents still don't want to abort. That's why adoption exists.
