In Ethical terms many observing Christians, Muslims, and Jews hold same tenets for thousands of years. Social changes

Some thing stay the same, yes, other things change. It depends very much on society. As it got less violent, so did religion.

The violent nature of the church, is not necessarily that of the religion (In Christianity very evident old->new covenant)

Christianity was invented in violent times tho. Even the New Testament thinks its OK to torture people for all eternity for wrongthink.

The position of the soul in a thought of afterlife is kind of a strawman with what we are speaking of as it relates to ethics today.

I don't know what you mean? It's literally true in Christian scriptures and theology & was held to be true for most of Christian history.

We speak of ethical guidelines here as it relates to interhuman ethics and social interaction, not afterlife metaphysical.

You might be. I am talking about ethics generally. What people think is right and wrong. A lot of Christianity doesn't sit well with us now.

I suppose i see it in cycles, those things valued by modern society, many ancient societies did as well. For me it sits well still.

Does it tho? Does the crucifixion sacrifice make ethical sense now? Sacrificing your child. An innocent dying = justice?

Would you really justify eternal torture for me because I don't believe what you do? Usually compassionate Christians don't think abt that

They are drawn to the nice bits & if they think abt hell for non-believers, they think that God is good so no good people will suffer.

I've never considered it in such a way, as I believe there are no good people as well. Once again a much longer conversation.

I sense you'd rather leave it so I will respect that. I don't think you want me to be tortured for eternity for not believing what you do.

I have no desire for you or to be tortured for a moment, neither do I believe God does, I wouldn't mind the conversation, just the forum.

I would never justify torture for you, I am not without fault myself, how can I judge? Although I do believe it is justified for me.
