They can do that. Nevertheless, religion is socially variable & reflects the values it arose in & evolves according to social change.
I don't know what you mean? It's literally true in Christian scriptures and theology & was held to be true for most of Christian history.

We speak of ethical guidelines here as it relates to interhuman ethics and social interaction, not afterlife metaphysical.

You might be. I am talking about ethics generally. What people think is right and wrong. A lot of Christianity doesn't sit well with us now.

I suppose i see it in cycles, those things valued by modern society, many ancient societies did as well. For me it sits well still.

They are drawn to the nice bits & if they think abt hell for non-believers, they think that God is good so no good people will suffer.

I've never considered it in such a way, as I believe there are no good people as well. Once again a much longer conversation.
