...get small place, be very economical, not have holidays or much in the way of consumer goods. Could eat & clothe ourselves tho.

Well in the area I live you can make well over $1000 a week driving forklift if you work for the right place

And is that what makes something middle-class? Not professional qualifications? But anyway, my husband doesn't. Gets £22,000 a year.

And that's in London. It;d be less outside it but still cheaper to live & rent/buy a house.
