But the OP said "single out" as if I have to criticize Mormonism when I want to criticize Islam. Illiberal = restricting speech / worship.

I would say it is liberal to remain open in all things, and illiberal to dogmatically take any stance.

I think there's a middle ground between remaining open to being wrong & being dogmatic tho. We can reach provisional conclusions.

Certainly. Although I think one can have a conclusion in metaphysical and philosophical realms and still remain open to others.
