No. I do not think anyone needs to know the biology of trans identity to take a liberal view of trans rights. Just let ppl do their thing.

The biology of gender identity is actually very interesting to me but it's not what should underlie our support for trans rights.

In the same way, we don't need to prove that homosexuality is not a choice to see that it's ethically neutral & needs no justification.

When you get to the point where the question of who gets to shower in a locker room, things get interesting. No other real equivalent here.

It matters in practical terms, yes. To a certain extent but even then it gets complicated coz trans people exist.

And some trans women still have penises & some don't. Some look like cis women & some don't.

Whether society decides trans women or trans men must use women's bathrooms, women will see masculine-looking ppl with penises.

The bathrooms have stalls, but no such privacy in the locker room.

Well, that's what I mean. Here 'bathroom' means 'room with bath or shower in it.'

I refer to 1) public toilets and 2) changing rooms with showers. Those are the two main arenas in question.

Yes, either way, whether or not women are alarmed by an individual in one comes down to what sex they look like more than anything.

Already seen two accounts of cis women with masculine features being thrown out of women's bathrooms. One with trousers round ankles.

That's when some liberal credentials will get tested. When biological males start walking around locker rooms in all their glory.

Or when trans men do and people naturally assume they are biologically male. Problem doesn't go away coz trans people exist.

We'd need to have a special changing room for anyone who looks enough like a man to alarm women getting changed.
