Glad you address what postmodernism gets right, more fair than what seems to be @RichardDawkins' outright rejection of #postmodernism.https://twitter.com/HPluckrose/status/900421397545197568 …

Yes. But he won;t acknowledge anything about it. I don't think he knows a lot about it.
-
I've no idea. There's no requirement for scientists to be interested in PoMo where it doesn't impinge on science.
-
I can name several good ideas coming from theorists but we don't need the denial of objective truth etc to have those. Can be done sensibly.
-
I don;t know any proponents of postmodernism who deny science uses objective methods. Wondering if that's a straw man.
-
I can't link another essay I wrote now but if you search How French Intellectuals Ruined the West(Yes, I know) many sources

Thanks: https://areomagazine.com/2017/03/27/how-french-intellectuals-ruined-the-west-postmodernism-and-its-impact-explained/ …. Will read.
#Focucault has made important contributions to thought, though. -
I like his panopticon. It has evidence & is reasonable.

Some proponents postmodernism do not attack science, reason & objectivity meaning independent measurement. They see it's a, not, the way.
-
That's the problem, yes. Other 'ways of knowing' which don't require evidence, testing or reason. Bad epistemologies.
-
Bad epistemologies for science, yes. Not others domains such as humanities. Again, proponent of pomo who rejects science is foolish pomo.
-
Noooo! We still want to respect evidence & reason in the humanities! That's where I am.
-
Granted, but there is also subjectivity. A work of art or literature is interpretive. We interact with and ascribe meaning to the work.
-
Sure but that has nothing to do with knowledge. We can have subjective perceptions & objective truths & not conflate them.
-
I misunderstood. Could you give me an example of objective knowledge of a work of art or a novel?
-
Shakespeare's Othello drew heavily on the writings of Leo Africanus.
