I get irritated with the expression, 'Just my opinion.' It's usually defensive & means 'Don't argue with it or ask for evidence or reasoning

Because it really doesn't need saying. Everyone can recognise someone offering an opinion. We can still ask why they hold it & evaluate.

Not sure i agree. I can recognize that what i think springs from emotion, is irrational or illogical but is "what i think".
-
Sure but in this sense, we're clearly talking about 'things I think are true' not anything I am capable of thinking.
-
I mean, tho, that i will express what i hope is true or want to be true even tho i do not believe it (e.g., assertions abt the afterlife).
-
I think heaven exists but I don't believe heaven exists?
-
This, i gather, differs from your own experience.
-
I recognise being conflicted on things & asserting one side because it's the one you'd like to be true.
-
But in discussion of what is true, no-one can say coherently. ' I think this is true whilst not believing that it is true.'
-
Generally, 'you think you're right' is incoherent because what people think is right is what people think is right.

Moreover, since grad school i've never been entirely confident that i'm right. It taught doubt, a function of knowing what i don't know

Openness to being wrong is a good thing, yes.

Yes but some wise people alway hedge, with this is what I believe but I could be wrong. Being wrong feels exactly the same as being right.

I say "just my opinion" when I know that I'm confused. I think I'm right, but I'm open to being wrong if someone convinces me.
