          Analogies always fail cos people don't accept the analogy is valid. And they're often right. Analogies are best avoided.

          They're usually used 2 show why reasoning doesn't work. Eg relating poisoned candy analogy to group person doesn't want to think of that way

          I think people see arguments they feel disagreement with but can't articulate why and find reasons post-hoc to explain that feeling.

          So they find a fallacy that seems close and use that to explain the feeling. It's like how people feel anxiety then create illusory causes.
