What does it mean if someone describes his or her self as having impostor syndrome? Seems like this shouldn't be possible on some level.

Oh, it is. I know loads of people who recognise impostor syndrome in themselves, know its irrational but experience fear of being found out

It's related to a very healthy recognition of how much you don't know with resulting self-doubt whilst others see you as an authority.

You can know intellectually that you do know your stuff to the degree that you claim & as much as others at your level of expertise.

But still feel very ignorant and as though everyone else knows more than you and you're only pretending to be on their level.
