Sounds a lot like libertarianism to me.

Culturally, I am very libertarian. Economically, less so.
-
In light of that idea of utopia, how do you classify your economic views?
-
Not very precisely. I favour a mixed economy with a strong safety net.
-
So in context of above convo, do you see a certain point at which econ. policies that are mildly redistributive have their desired effect...
-
...and programs are ended, (liberal) or do safety net policies exist in perpetuity to help lower income groups (progressive)?
-
As long as they are needed.
-
Right, but need is relative. I'm just thinking maybe one problem with liberals turning to conservatives is the Achilles paradox...

And that's why it's a "utopia", because it is an impossibility.
-
Maybe but I think we do pretty well right now. There's not much I can't do.
-
We do, and better than any other time in history for the masses of people. Be thankful, not so antagonistic and at at each other's throats.
-
That is my argument, yes. I thought yours was different?
-
It's not. I'm deeply concerned we have lost our way - open and free discussion is being attacked. People do not "leave each other alone:.
-
That's the current threat, yes. I spend most of my time addressing it. We're still doing much better than at almost any other time,
-
We are. We need to recognize that. Yet when James Damore can be fired for expressing scientific truths we are in dangerous times.
-
I don't need telling this. I have written much about it.
