Do we, as a society, glorify what is average or do we like to think of ourselves as different, exceptional, unique? I think its the latter.

I am constantly getting clickbait on Facebook that says 'Only 10% of people can see this illusion, get all these questions right.'
-
I think this speaks to the attractiveness of seeing oneself as part of an elite. Not a total outlier but not typical, common, average either
-
I wish we could see cognitive & psychological gender differences in the same way as we see height differences. Unexceptional. Not loaded.
-
For women, anyway. Different for men, sadly. I'm 5 ft 9. The average height for men but in the 90th centile for women so not uncommon.
-
No-one gawps at me in the street or makes comments coz its known that whilst more men are this tall or taller, so are millions of women.
-
Of course, the difference is that society did have set gender roles & jobs for men & women for centuries & this was moralistic.
-
It was restrictive & it hasn't entirely gone away. Some social conservatives uphold the idea of 'natural roles' in a moralistic sense.
-
Others just notice trends & make assumptions based on them w/out having a moral commitment to them. Better not to make such assumptions.

I'm amused that the people outraged by the suggestion that gender gaps can have a biological cause R totally fine with Olympic track eventspic.twitter.com/pOj9Khn6hB

IMO it's people not understanding frequency distributions, empirical evidence and statistics. In short: inability for scientific approach.

If anything, average traits of my gender inform.me of how to go about being an individual that breaks the mold.

Somewhat similar to that "averages = stereotype" thing that's been going around.
