Well, I respectfully disagree with that (on engineering). Yes, engineering is a core part, but people are as well, with an equal importance.

Only in the sense that people are involved in engineering. But people are involved in everything.

People skills will make a good software engineer better. But coding skills will make you a software engineer in the first place.

In the same way, tech skills make a good social historian better but interest in social history is what made them historians in first place

Because they're interested in solving tech problems for people!If they were interested in solving social problems, they'd do something else!
