Addressing the problem of religion in general & Islam in particular is one of them.

Standing up for people who are being targeted on the basis of the religion they happen to have been born into is another.

You know, it's entirely possible to stand up for Muslims' civil rights and yet tear into Islam, Islamophilia, and Islam apologetics.

That's what I like about the liberal sceptics known as 'New Atheists.' They do this.

I see very little of the "standing up for Muslims" part. Lots of fearmongering and playing into stereotypes.

Look harder. Obv, their focus is more on ex-Muslims being oppressed by religion. Arabic version of God Delusion downloaded 10 million times.

I have no interest in looking harder. The best thing the New Atheists had to offer the world was a more tolerant world for Atheists.

That is still the aim but now people pissed off coz it's not all ex-Christians criticising Christianity but ex-Muslims criticising Islam too

Whatever you think you're demonstrating with the "ex-Muslim" thing, you're not.

Any group of people who are ex-[thing] is a self-selected group likely to align with people anti-[thing].

Obviously. Is this a problem? Is there some reason supporting ex-Muslims isn't a vitally important thing to be doing?

If you're only doing it because they make perfect poster-children for your anti-religion crusade, I'd question its "vital importance."

I have mixed feelings. I think a world without religion would be somewhat better. But New Atheists have overstated dangers of religion.
