Of course we do. That's why we're so prone to doing it.

We need to psychologically manage our fear of death and powerlessness and the fact that there is no external moral code.

It is certainly not a fact that there is no external moral code.

In the sense it can't be proven? Or in the sense that it's a false claim?

I mean that there are sound ethical systems, virtue ethics is the one I have in mind, that place morality beyond merely subjective volition.

But isn't this still a human thing? An argument that makes sense to humans & can be argued to be superior but doesn't matter outside us?

Yes, sure. But maybe I've been an atheist so long I can't see why, if you have a functioning human system of thriving, you need God.

I don't think so either. I think God is the easy option which doesn't require working through the existential dread to find joy & purpose.

I don't see need for existential dread! I'm a creature who's designed to enjoy life if he has food, friendship, interesting things to think.

Excellent! Many of us go through it tho. Coming to terms with the fact that we cease to exist. If doing so as a child, its easier.

It took me longer as an adult having believed I was an immortal soul and would see my loved ones again & that they weren't really gone.
