Possible evolution has constructed our brains such that we actually do feel more comfortable believing some things which aren't true.
Excellent! Many of us go through it tho. Coming to terms with the fact that we cease to exist. If doing so as a child, its easier.

My daughter cried every night for 6 weeks on finding out we die when she was 4. Lots questions about why. But she accepted it &was soon fine

Yes, exactly! Help a child through it in the same way you would the birth of a sibling. The less introspective might not even dwell on it.
