I tolerate rudeness to me a bit better than I tolerate rudeness to other people on my threads. I do become a bit of nanny then.

Sometimes, people think theres a contradiction between my being very in favour of free speech & disliking rudeness but this misses the point

There is, of course, a huge difference between advocating the free speech & having boundaries with how you will allow ppl to speak to you.

I am very interested in speech & the effects of speech.I read & write quite a lot about effective communication.

But there is a lot of confusion around this. One woman's condescending 'scolding' is another's virtuous 'calling out.'

I'd defend the right to be rude, but try to be polite. Usually being seems to help my cause more....
