Just got very strange argument. 'My view that Burqas are OK in schools is worth more than yours that they're not coz I work in a school.'

Even tho the issue at hand was a teacher from a school saying it wasn't appropriate & the school supporting her on this.

Women having to wear Burqas on the international space station is fine. I'm right on this because I'm an astronaut.

Who is arguing that women have to wear burkas in schools?

Nobody is. This is reductio ad absurdum of the principle of claiming to know best ethically coz of practical experience.

The above post talked about women having to wear them on space stations. Maybe just poor choice of words, maybe a Freudian slip of bigotry.

Who cares about the value of the argument itself if you can argue on the basis of identity and implied expertise instead?

A version of the 'lived experience' approach? The appeal of the anecdotal.

That's kind of ironic because I've lived in Pakistan all my life and never had teachers who wore burkha, at least in school.

"I'm a POC, so my opinion on X is more valid." At least consistent on the issue of who is speaking is more important than what they speak.
