What about them? If they're non-binary, why would they have painful surgery & hormone treatments to become the other binary biologically?

People don't mean 'Someone who transitions' by transgender. They mean someone who feels a different sex to their biological body.

I wouldn't. I'd say they thought they were trans (if they did) but found that they weren't.

I don't care too much about definitions. I'll go with calling someone trans if they tell me they are and not if they don't.
