We must protect freedom of belief & speech in law & in principle even if we really, really think we are in the right morally.

But this puts the power in the hands of the majority to decide what is horrible & hurtful. This doesn't usually end well.

Society doesn't work on best arguments & evidence. It works on what the majority of people feel is right at any given time.

So, it doesnt matter how good your arguments are that ur values are the morally right ones & therefore censorship is justified in this case.

It isn't that I don't agree with you that they are & if you can only get me to see that racism/sexism/transphobia etc are bad, I'll get it

I'm still not going to help or fail to oppose opening the door to it being normal to punish people for having bad ideas.

Giving the state power to do that will always back fire. History is the evidence, anti speech laws were/are always opressive, not liberating

Not *always* - I know people who used to be called P*ki on the street. This doesn't happen any more, they tell me and they are happy for it.
