I get temptation to prevent horrible or hurtful ideas from being spoken.I really do. It feels like world would be so much better w/out them

But this puts the power in the hands of the majority to decide what is horrible & hurtful. This doesn't usually end well.

Society doesn't work on best arguments & evidence. It works on what the majority of people feel is right at any given time.

So, it doesnt matter how good your arguments are that ur values are the morally right ones & therefore censorship is justified in this case.

It isn't that I don't agree with you that they are & if you can only get me to see that racism/sexism/transphobia etc are bad, I'll get it

I'm still not going to help or fail to oppose opening the door to it being normal to punish people for having bad ideas.

It amazes me that these people cant grasp that normalising firing people for "bad" speech wont end well for minority groups.
