Because of the way this is understood as a commitment to cede ones own principles of human rights &equality to an activist subset of a group

-
And be directed by it because of its group identity and not because of its sound & consistent principles of human rights & equality.
-
"Allyship is not self-defined" it says. "Our work and our efforts must be recognized by the people we seek to ally ourselves with."
-
The clear problem here is that it fails to acknowledge that individuals within groups are ethically & politically diverse.
-
And that there will of necessity be some people whose values you can support and some you can't. Thus allyship is always self-defined.
-
Responsibility for the principles held & approaches taken remains with the ally & cannot be so easily off-loaded even if that were advisable
-
We choose to support radicals, intersectionals, liberals, conservatives etc & shouldn't pretend otherwise if those values mean anything.
-
Upholding principles is a good thing & so is being guided by members of various groups sound ideas on group-specific applications of them.
-
Upholding ur own values doesn't imply always thinking you know best in every situation. Liberal & reforming Muslims understand stuff I don't
-
But if someone claiming to be a liberal makes recommendations for approaches to a problem affecting their own group which aren't liberal...?
-
I can still evaluate this & choose to go with a better plan. I don't stop being an ally to important equality causes.Just certain approaches

I'll support the cause of equality (including the T). Whether or not I ally with people will depend on their values.

Why would they? I don't even know what that means. How is anyone completed by anyone else?
-
On an individual (rational) lvl you're absolutely correct. In the realm of group-think you're off by a mile.
-
Well, I am trying to make rational arguments rather than repeat ideologically-motivated thinking errors.
-
Yes that's my impression.

that's not how allyship works. That's not how it works at all. They don't want allies. They want servants. Fuck that.
-
These new allies are supposed to be embodied guilt to be abused for historical inequity. Dehumanizing. One of many words being redefined
