They may or may not know of critical race theory definitions which looks at the issue in terms of systems of power & privilege.

Even if you think they should look at it this way (and I'd argue 'no' partly coz it leads to justifying some prejudice on grounds of race)

it's evasive to respond that they're using a word wrongly by using it in its commonly accepted way rather than addressing the objection.

You can't stop ppl objecting to prejudice on the grounds of race by trying to take away the words they use to do that & avoiding the issue
