There's a quote 'Making things better never means better for everyone, but worse for some'. Sorry for interjecting, just wanted to say that☺

Of course. People who currently benefit from unfair advantages lose them if we level the playing field.

'The first will be last and last shall be first?' It's certainly not a new concept.. a cyclical progression like that suggests a repetition

No. That idea of a reversal goes along with the postmodern idea of reversing hierarchies & does not level the playing field.

Universal liberalism is about levelling. Eg when women began to be able to access professional qualifications as well as men.

This meant men had more competition & some of them wouldn't make the cut & would be unemployed. But they still had equal access.

At times this produces an adverse effect, lowering the standard. As we saw with the 'no child left behind' policy.

Why would adding women to the mix and allowing employers to select the best qualified lower the standard? More brains to choose from.

Some jobs require more strength then brains. That's not my point I'm not bringing feminist ideology into question just providing an example

Of lowering standards to make something more inclusive. Such examples are prevelant all over our society right now.

Your use of the word 'levelling' implies lowering something while raising another. If you aren't referring to standards then what, exactly?

A level playing field is an expression meaning that everyone has the same opportunities. They may or may not be capable of using them.

eg, I have the same opportunity as everybody else to become a mathematician. I don't have the ability to do so.

In that sense for the most part such opportunity exists today, particularly in the west.
