It seems that proponents of moral "codes" don't do that, though. I.e. applying a moral position universally without self-reflection

People failing to think through their values honestly is a different issue to whether we should be consistent in them or relative.

For sure, I'm not great with the semantics here. I'm merely arguing for self-betterment and not adhering to sweeping moral codes.

And I am arguing for moral consistency. If it is wrong for ppl in one culture to do something, it is wrong for people in all cultures.
