I think of myself as having a very neutral accent. A short conversation with anyone not from London disabuses me of this notion.

I think the nicest accents are West Country, Irish, Jamaican &American South. Unfortunately. I'm from Essex. Cld be worse. Cld be Birmingham

I like accents that are soft & warm & this prob comes from variations in my own culture.They seem friendly whilst staccato ones seem hostile

My old nursing teacher tested this in London& found that patients perceived Nigerian nurses as less friendly/comforting than Jamaican ones.

Even when they said the same things and smiled. The difference was staccato delivery or syllables blending into each other.

She also found that Irish nurses were perceived as more comforting than Cockney ones despite most of the patients being Londoners.

I don't know how much this travels but locally, at least, tells us something about slowing down & relaxing voices when talking to people.
